Hair Transplant Specialists
Over the past few years, hair transplant surgery has become more commonplace amongst men who have experienced hair loss, with several high profile celebrities such as Wayne Rooney and Jason Gardner increasing public awareness.
Techniques for hair replacement surgery have also improved dramatically and our specialist surgeons aim to achieve natural looking results.
Nationwide Cosmetics offer both FUE and FUT hair transplant surgery (for more information – see below).
Types of Hair Transplant:
There are two main types of hair transplant techniques, FUT and FUE – both have their advantages and we are able to offer both of them. Both FUT and FUE are similar in the respect that they take hair from one part of the scalp (the donor area, usually at the back of the head where your hair is always most dense) and place it into the bald or thinning area. The difference is the way the hair is extracted from the donor area.
FUT Hair Transplant (Follicular Unit Transplant)
FUT hair transplant surgery is where existing hair is harvested from the back of the head by taking a strip of hair follicles in one go (including the skin they are growing into). The surgeon removes the strip and then each follicle (each with 2-3 hairs) is carefully cut and separated into grafts. The grafts are then individually planted into tiny incisions made in the thinning area by the surgeon.
FUT surgery tends to be cheaper than FUE surgery, as it is quicker and less demanding for the surgeon. Surgical technicians are employed to separate the follicular grafts, whereas in FUE the follicles are extracted by the surgeon himself. FUT usually leaves a scar around the back of the scalp.
FUE Hair Transplant (Follicular Unit Extraction)
FUE hair transplant surgery is very similar to the FUT procedure above, but each follicular graft is extracted individually from the donor area (back of the scalp) by the surgeon using a surgical punch (similar to a microscopic apple-corer). Each graft is then implanted into incisions in the balding area as with the FUT procedure.
With the FUE method, there is minimal scarring in the donor area, as no strip of skin is extracted (only very small “circles” of skin) so it is less noticable and the recovery time is therefore quicker.
